| This is very simple, optical switches don't require the maintenance or adjustments that mechanical switch's do. For example as you haul/use your standard style machine I am sure you have noticed it go out of adjustment over time. That happens because the switches must physically touch to work every time you press a key, so as the machine is bumped and vibrates around that contact moves ever so slightly causing the out of adjustment condition that you notice over time.
In the case of optical switch there is no physical part touching to make the switch work, but rather it works on light beam and the interruption of that light beam giving you a key registration. The nice thing about this is those keys never go out of adjustment, and they don't wear out over time and this can help prevent stacking that occurs on so many other machines. |
